An Extrovert's Curse
bd's reply to my last post made me revist that whole personality type thing. Those of you who know me will have no trouble telling I'm in extrovert. Best I can figure I'm an ENFJ. If you know me, feel free to disagree. I'm curious about how others perceive me.
I was playing a game called Therapy on New Year's Eve (with a couple of therapists), when I was asked on a scale of 1-10 how serious I am. I had to figure it out, then the other players made their assessment and we compared results. To continue my turn, we had to agree. I picked 3 because I new that I was perceived from my party antics as not being very serious. The other player(s) picked 3 as well. Although I got to continue my turn, I was a bit dissapointed at the confirmation of the perception that I'm not serious. Granted, I don't take myself too seriously, but I'm quite serious about the people and projects I care about. And I think that many of my 'friends' don't get to see that side of me. The ENFJ description says, "Face-to-face relationships are intense, personable and warm, though they may be so infrequently achieved that intimate friendships are rare," which I largely find to be true in my life, and that has always bothered me.

i think it was definitely a matter of timing, environment and context as far as the assessment goes. "how serious are you" and "how serious are you about [friends, work, etc.] are quite different questions.
had the game card been worded the second way, i'm certain you would have gotten a far different answer.
last time i checked i was an istj. i think i'm going to retake it just out of curiosity.
You've always seemed very serious about the things that you are passionate about, and even a few other things (like attempts at fixing the Oki in a jam).
Don't let the lack of context in a board/card game get you down.
I think you are very serious about the things that matter and relaxed about the things that don't. I would agee with the last quote... as someone who is your friend and I think knows you pretty well.
